Formed in 1981 by a small group of artists, the Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces has endured and thrived for more than 40 years. In the early 1980s, there was no support for people in the business of selling pottery so a core group of extremely motivated, creative, and talented people set about building a ceramics community, literally from the ground up. Many members have remained active for ten years or longer and continue to be proud supporters of the group.
The caring spirits of many people who began and nourished the guild for over three decades have left an impression. To this day, the Guild continues to bring clay into the public view as a medium of artistic expression.
Our Goals
As a group we have developed and set a certain amount of specific goals that continue to be priorities from our early days as an organization.
They include the following:
•Providing a forum for learning and discussion
•Fostering the education of the arts
•Sponsoring exhibitions and sales of the groups work
• Organizing workshops about clay issues
•Promoting community service
These goals and principles have set the course for our activities, workshops, meetings and membership.
Potters
of all levels
The Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces has many experienced clay artists that hold positions in the organization, but we also welcome complete beginners, novice potters, and pottery artists with moderate experience. We believe that cultivating a welcoming environment that is instructional, supportive, and inclusive is the best way to operate.
If you are interested in pottery, feel free to reach out to our group and become a member. You’ll be glad you did—and we’ll be glad to have you! Contact us to learn more about joining.
