Fire & Fiber Show

The Fire and Fiber show is a local exhibit showcasing clay and fiber arts. It brings together a clay artist and a fiber artist who work together to produce an art piece that is a balanced and cohesive use of both mediums. Held every two years, the entires must include clay and the fiber can be fabric, paper, wood, wool, yarn, or other fibrous mediums.

Fire and Fiber 2022

Every two years, the Las Cruces Potters’ Guild sponsors an exhibition titled “Fire and Fiber”

Tombaugh Gallery.  JUNE 3 – JUNE 26

Deming Art Center. July 1 – July 28

The Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces presented “Fire and Fiber 2022” at the Tombaugh Gallery, June 3 through June 26. This is a biennial exhibition showing collaborative works of art by ceramic and fiber artists. It has been offered to the community every other year since 2000. The Tombaugh Gallery, 2000 S. Solano Dr, is part of the Unitarian Universalist church.

The show opened Friday, June 3, 5:00 to 7:00 with a wine reception. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm and Sunday at 11:00.

This year there is a new category for members of the Potters’ Guild. Members who work in both ceramics and fiber are able to enter works of art that encompass both mediums. Awards for outstanding art works will be given by Dori McKay.

After June, the show will move to Deming NM, and be installed at the Deming Art Center, 100 South Gold, July 2 through July 29.

This year’s artist who chose the awards in the  Fire & Fiber show is Dori McKay. Dori is a recent resident to Las Cruces having only lived here a year and a half. Previously she lived in California and most recently Scottsdale, AZ. She loves Las Cruces and is enjoying learning how to garden in New Mexico and meeting people in the art community.

Dori is a quilter having done both traditional and art quilts. She paints and draws and is inspired by many mediums and has been a lifelong learner taking classes. She can’t ever remember a time when she has not been immersed in art. Dori is looking forward to seeing the work entered in this year’s Fire & Fiber Show. You may see Dori’s paintings on Instagram @dorimckayart.
